“Toasted 101: A small batch Kentucky Bourbon aged a few long Kentucky summers, re-barreled in new traditional medium toasted barrels for a minimum of 21 days. The result - is a pleasantly balanced toasted bourbon with just the right amount of vanilla, candy and sweet oak flavor. Bottled at 101 proof this bourbon will surely become a staple on any bar. We hope you enjoy this bourbon as much as we do. Cheers to high standards and great friends. Welcome to Shortbarrel.”
Nose: Deep Cherry, maple, nutty almonds, burnt apple, burnt brown sugar and lingering oak.
Mouth: Vanilla oak bomb, toasted honey nut cereal, and nutty pecans with a toast is present but not overwhelming. Very sweet oak that lingers with a bit of orange, cherry, and peach into the finish.
Finish: Long toasted sweet oak, lightly toasted popcorn that keeps the vanilla throughout!
While many brands are not age-stating their younger bourbons, we age-stated this release as we believe in transparency to the customers. After tasting this new mash bill over the last couple of months, this does not have much youth at all. The toasting is going to amplify the bourbon to where we wanted it to be. We are excited to bring this Kentucky Bourbon to GA and beyond.
What happens when a mezcal barrel meets a 5 ½-year-old Kentucky American Whiskey for 8 months…
The result - a perfectly balanced blend of Kentucky and Oaxaca flavors that highlights the dark, rich oak of aged whiskey and the bright vanilla and citrus notes of mezcal - with just the right amount of smoke. Bottled at 111 proof, El Jefe balances strong, smooth, and sweet.
Shortbarrel is proud to bring to life this unique blend of flavors that pushes the boundaries of finished whiskey. Consisting of only 4 barrels, this super small batch American Whiskey is a blend of 5 ½-year-old Kentucky Straight American Whiskey (91% corn, 9% malted barley) finished for 8 months in ex-reposado mezcal barrels.
Aroma: Sweet American Whiskey upfront with a gentle hint of smokey mezcal (almost woody) on the first nose. Slight notes of vanilla, charred orange, pepper, sweet corn, and herbal background.
Mouth: Orange’s, smooth creamy vanilla, honey, cinnamon spice, very bright citrus keeps going and going. This is 111 proof after all. Even with the proof, this offer’s up a buttery-like taste because of the 91% corn in the mashbill. The smokey flavor is there but not overpowering. The smoke shows up more with an ice cube in the glass which also enhances the normally known mezcal finish you would expect.
Finish: The extra time in the barrel helped here and so does the proof. This is one of those finishes that will make you want to grab a second/third glass as you try to figure out the nose and mouthfeel on this. The finish is long as you would expect from a 111 proof whiskey but it’s not a punch in the chest. This finish whiskey is creamy, almost buttery at times, the mezcal impact becomes increasingly evident as the warming finish develops, adding nuance to a palate that finds room for all the tasting notes.
Final notes: This mezcal finish was made to be drunk neat, with a cube or in a cocktail. We highly recommend adding a small ice cube or a drop of water to this whiskey to really let the finish shine. At this proof, mixologists should have a great time coming up with new and exciting recipes.
¡Salud! to high standards and great friends. Shortbarrel hopes you enjoy this whiskey as much as we did experimenting with it.
American Whiskey distilled in Kentucky, aged 5.5 years, finished in used honey barrels.
Shortbarrel’s first experimental release takes traditional American Whiskey and finished it in a barrel previously used to age bourbon and then to barrel-age honey for just shy of 3 extra months. The sweet, candy-corn flavor of American Whiskey blended with the richness of oak and honey to leave you with an explosion of traditional whiskey flavors and a hit of sweet honey.
At 101 proof, this is a fun whiskey to try in your favorite cocktails, sip on the rocks, or just drink neat. It appeals to a lover of sweeter, smoother whiskies and to those who traditionally prefer a lighter spirit, as it is less tannic than a traditional aged whiskey.
Mashbill: 91% Corn, 9% Malted Barley
Aroma: Honey up front that fades into what an American Whiskey should be. Slight notes of caramel, apples, pepper, sweet corn, and candy in the background.
Mouth: Oh sweet honey, buttery popcorn, cinnamon spice, a “bit o honey” candy-like feel that keeps going, coating your mouth with a honey roasted cashew smile and a touch of warmth.
Finish: The long, rich, creamy, honey finish remains after the warmth is gone. There is just enough, vanilla, thick honey, and oak on the finish to remind the drinker that this is a 101 proof spirit – not a cocktail in a bottle (though it tastes like one!).
American Whiskey distilled in Kentucky, aged 5.5 years, finished in used honey barrels.
This is a super limited release, that will be sure to let you know the proof is there. This uncut, unfiltered release is dripping in honey: literally. The honey haze is apparent through the bottle!
Proof: 132 (limited to 300 bottles in Georgia)
Aroma: Honey dominates the nose, and it won’t fade away. Deep notes of caramel, apples, pepper, and honey candies linger in the background.
Mouth: Oh sweet honey, buttery popcorn, cinnamon spice, a “bit o honey” candy-like feel that keeps going, coating your mouth with a honey roasted cashew smile and heat to remind you it’s 9 points from HAZMAT.
Finish: Bring on the proof. The long, thick, rich, creamy, honey finish remains. The proof lets you know it's there and wants you to come back for more without overpowering the vanilla, honey, and oak that permeate from the barrel-aging.

When we started researching ryes for our first Shortbarrel expression, we knew where to look first.
Although non-age stated, release #3 is a blend of non chill filtered MGP rye barrels, all over 5 years old and blended to our specifications.
We feel that 101 is the perfect proof to hold up to cocktails, sip neat, or enjoy on the rocks. The spice blends with a subtle sweetness to dance this blend across all of your taste buds.
Mouth: Caramel, vanilla, slight mint, surprisingly sweet while holding onto the signature Shortbarrel bold, lingering spice that has become our trademark.
Aroma: Rye spice hits you quickly and then fades into lightly floral notes. Slight notes of baking spices, pepper, nutmeg, cinnamon, and mint candy in the background.
Finish: Despite a lower proof for some. The long, spice finish remained. It consisted of clove, rye spice, almond, oak, and tobacco leaf.

No crazy marketing story behind this one. We had the opportunity to taste through several tanked small batches of NCF, barrel-proof 100% Kentucky Straight Bourbon. We found one that we fell in love with, and that's what's inside this bottle.
In true Shortbarrel fashion, we found a whiskey we love and believe you will too. It's a bourbon we will pour over and over again. This batch is limited to just 1340 bottles and will be available in GA and online.
Mashbill: 78.5% Corn, 13% Rye, 8.5% Malted Barley
With an oak, cinnamon stick, vanilla nose, this bourbon will get the senses going quickly. On the first sip you get a complex mixture of mature, dry flavors; leather, with fruit & spice. Think of tart cherry with oak, pepper, and hints of chocolate. The finish lingers and reminds you of the proof, as the fruit and spice notes leave you wanting more
